About the event

SilverBack Trails Lamplighter 30  tail running night event

Starting and finishing at Goathland Village Hall you will visit 4 Triangulation Pillars, North, East, South and West, before heading back to the Village Hall.

The event start and finish times will be dictated by the setting and rising of the sun on 14/15 June 2025 .  So, it will be a true run through the night, dusk till dawn.

Entrants will register and collect numbers etc an hour before last light ,  the event will begin when the Lamplighter appears and lights the lamp outside the village hall gate...

It will be up to you to be ready to go, when the Lamplighter weaves their magic it will be time for you to trot on...

You will then have until the sun comes up above the horizon and the Lamplighter is back in the village, but don’t despair you will still get a finishers medal if you beat the flag. As soon as the Lamplighter has snuffed out the lamp a flag will be raised  at the village hall a little bit at a time, every 20 minutes, until it is at full mast….

Lamplighters have been around in various forms since the 15th century , arriving with their lighting equipment and helper to hold the ladder as they ascend to light the lamps as night draws in.

The course will have some physical markers, there will be marshalls at the checkpoints who will point you in the righr direction, you will each get a tracker, and a GPX will be sent to you before the event. There will also be a course recce a few weeks before the event giving you the opportunity to do either half or the full course, this will be at a cost of £10pp. There will also be a master map at the start.

The route  will take you over over good tracks, open moorland and forestry all within the beautifu North York Moors National Park.

If the skies are clear you will  be running under a waning gibbous Rose Moon that will have been full on the 11th of June.

During the inaugural Lamplighter, this year, those taking part had plenty of stories to tell, involving waterlogged  tracks, bogs, fog, Highland Cattle,  detours, and shady  goings on near one of the checkpoints to name but  few.

Come and join us to run from sunset to sunrise and add your stories to the Lamplighter Legend...
